Chaparral Star Academy utilizes a web portal, txConnect, that allows parents/guardians and students to view grades, assignments (grades 2-12), STAAR (and TAKS) results, and attendance information online. CSA is committed to providing parents/guardians with the information they need to be engaged in their child’s education, because research has shown that students tend to perform better in school when their parents/guardians are actively involved in their learning. The txConnect program will be the most comprehensive source for information regarding your child’s academic progress.
To begin, you will need to setup an account that connects to a particular student (or students). To do so, please view the linked document and START HERE: How to Setup txConnect
Please realize that you will need your child’s STUDENT PORTAL ID to set up an account, which can be found in the letter sent home with your child at the beginning of the year (or shortly after your child has started). If you have lost your child’s STUDENT PORTAL ID, please stop by the front office and we can gladly print you a new letter.
Once you have logged in and successfully connected your child’s information with your txConnect account, feel free to explore all of the options available to you. Information that highlights the most popular functions of txConnect can be found below:
- GRADES: The most common aspect of txConnect for students & parents/guardians is the ability to check grades. There is a tab at the top of txConnect (once logged in) specifically dedicated to grades. For more information about how to navigate txConnect in regard to grades, please look at this document: Using txConnect – Grades
- ASSIGNMENTS: txConnect also allows parents/guardians & students to look at each individual assignment that led to the overall grade average. There is a tab at the top of txConnect (once logged in) specifically dedicated to assignments. Teachers can also include student-specific notes attached to each assignment (as seen by a yellow notecard icon next to the assignment). For more information about how to navigate txConnect in regard to assignments, please look at this document: Using txConnect – Assignments
- ALERTS: Another favorite feature of txConnect is the Alert feature. Alerts are messages notifying parents & students that the student has grades or attendance information of which parents should be aware, such as an absence or a low grade. If the student has alerts, the number of alerts is displayed below the student’s name on the left side of the page. There is a tab at the top of txConnect (once logged in) specifically dedicated to alerts. When you create a txConnect account, you are automatically subscribed to two alerts (1) Unexcused absence alerts, first occurrence of the day (2) Failing grade alerts. For more information about Alerts, please look at this document: Using txConnect – Alerts
Through txConnect, parents/guardians can change e-mail addresses and update vital directory information. For more information about editing & updating parent/guardian accounts, please visit the MyAccount tab through txConnect (once logged in). For more help, please look at this document: Using txConnect – My Account.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN USING txCONNECT:
UPDATES FOR GRADES
Chaparral Star Academy administration only requires teachers to update grade in txGradebook around every three weeks. Specifically, due dates are described on the Grading Periods Due Dates 2015-16. Individual teachers may update grades more often, but expectations are set according to the due dates. Please abstain from asking individual teachers for grades earlier than the due dates.
Chaparral Star Academy administration updates attendance for every week on the subsequent Tuesday by the end of the working day. On weeks where students begin attendance on a Tuesday, the update takes place on the following Wednesday. This update is crucial for many reasons: (1) all absences are defaulted to unexcused status until the administrative update (assuming correct documentation is received) (2) all tardies are are defaulted to unexcused status until the administrative update (3) all errors (e.g. accidental postings) are corrected with the administrative update.
Overall, please be aware that attendance reported through txConnect may not be 100% accurate at the time of viewing. Questions regarding attendance should be directed to Ms. Fox in the front office. However, please be patient and aware that attendance will change after the administrative update.
The system on which txConnect is based updates every night between 10:00 – 10:30. If a teacher enters a grade for an assignment during the day, that grade will not appear in txConnect until AFTER the nightly update. This also works for attendance and any other changes to grades.
