Middle School
Middle school at Chaparral Star Academy is comprised of grades 7 & 8.
Throughout the 4-hour school day, all students are exposed to 4 core areas of instruction (English Language Arts, Math, Science & Social Studies), along with various other curricula. 7th grade students are enrolled in a double-block of English Language Arts to help improve reading & writing skills. Additionally, 7th graders receive instruction in Study Skills; helping to prepare them to be the best students possible.
In order to meet high school graduation requirements, 8th grade students are also enrolled in two high school credit courses: Communication Applications/Health & Physical Education.
To see how this all fits into a 4-hour period, feel free to look at the K-8th Course Schedule.
All curricula at Chaparral Star Academy is above and beyond the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for that particular grade. Instruction is accelerated (we typically move faster through the curriculum than surrounding schools) and compacted (we fit the information into 40 minutes). Courses are teacher-led and focus more on the core analysis and synthesis of the material, rather than basic knowledge.
